musicals were very developed in Ottomans. These skillful people
called as hokkabaz, tasbaz, şadırvanbaz, matrakbaz, zürbaz,
kasebaz, perendebaz, kuklabaz, canbaz. Canbaz means a person
who plays with his life. In the Ottoman state especially the
rope dancing was very developed. |

They
showed very interesting exhibitions like sitting cross-legged
on the rope, walking on the rope without a trial balance, showing
their skills by the ropes strained between minarets, walking
on the ropes with knives on their feet, playing some games with
the help of various tools, laying a boiler on the rope and getting
in it, climbing on the obelisks and oily columns. On the wedding
book of Surname-i Humayun of 1582, Nakkaş Osman mentions about
the rope dancers. |
