Dr
Covel tells about the nahıls that he saw in 1675, at the time
of the circumcision of the son of IV. Sultan Mehmed and the
wedding of his daugther. "In the festival, there were forty
nahıls, twenty on one side, twenty on the other. These were
long, vertical columns and there were colorful papers, beeswax |

| flowers and fruits on them. This was
done on every weddings and circumcision. But the one in 1675
festival was too big. One of them was 25 m high and the width
of its bottom was 5-6 m. Among the round ornaments there were
box shaped beeswax cubes. At the bottom of the nahıl there
were eight or ten wood holders. |

| There was a
chief carrier. Incase it falls four wood sticks had been hung
up and it was dangled by a rope. Through those sticks and the
rope, they carried it easily. To carry this nahıl in the streets,
some houses, eaves or bay windows were destroyed. |
